सिन्दूर, sindūra (sindūr in Hindi)

• red lead, red paint; 

• a strip of paint on the parting of a married woman's hair, is an element in the wedding ceremony: the groom paints the bride's parting with it when they marry. Sindur (sindoor) is applied by all married women.
