Svarupa

Svarupa

स्वरूप, svarūpa

"true nature, essence"; "own (true, spiritual) form";
"the inner nature of Brahman, being".

Svarupa implies the eternal Self, Atman and His form in which He is localized, therefore each being has an individual form with his inherent features.

The Nathas consider Nava-nathas as svarupas of certain Deities, initially identical to the eternal Absolute. For example, Gajakantharnath among the Nathas is Ganapati’s svarupa. Ganesha, having incarnated in human form and having received yogic sadhana from Gorakshanath, achieved immortality in the body, became a Nath. In the same way, Satyanath is Brahma’s svarupa, Santoshnath is Vishnu’s svarupa. Shri Matsyendranath is Maya-svarupa.
