Samarasa

Samarasa

समरस, samarasa

"the same taste", "equal perception"

In "Siddha-siddhanta Paddhati", a term denoting a state achieved by a yogi in which he consciously perceives the world and everything around him, always remembering the unity of God, soul, and world. A state of complete equilibrium and integration. It is said that the perception of a single taste is possible only through the full integration of the principles of the manifested and the unmanifested (kula and akula).

The practice of samarasa is called "samarasya-karana", which implies the complete unification (identity) of the individual and cosmic bodies, both bodies with the Suprem Power, and the Power with the Absolute Spirit.

When the ideal of samarasya is realized, the difference between matter and spirit disappears, the difference between the limited and the infinite is lost, the difference between jiva and Shiva is eliminated, the contradiction between personality and the world ceases to exist. Then yogi sees the world within himself, and himself in all manifestations of the world. He sees Shiva in himself and in all things, himself and the whole world united in Shiva. For his enlightened consciousness, there is only one Absolute Spirit, Shiva, in all names and forms, and nothing else besides him. Yogi observes and enjoys the most beautiful and blissful unity in all visible diversity.
