Bindu-stambhana

बिन्दुस्तम्भन, bindu-stambhana

Bindu-stambhana is retention (stambhana) of a «drop» or «seed» (bindu), result of which is preservation of vital force (prana). A similar concept is prana-samyama.

The sacred texts on yoga and tantra indicate that achievement of bindu-stambhana state, i.e. complete cessation of chaotic movement of prana and mind (manas) can be fulfilled by concentration on the location of bindu – bindu-sthana, area below sahasrara chakra, in occipital part closer to center of head.

Also, control of prana in a body is acquired through the worship of Bagalamikhi. The mantra of Goddess teaches sadhaka to control energy, inhibiting its excessive consumption at the level of body, speech, and mind, leading to the wholeness of the entire structure. Prana-samyama (balance of prana) is realized by such practice, therefore, the development of connection with Bagalamukhi is very important for the goals of Hatha Yoga.
