A collection of hymns in the Vedic language, one of the four Hindu religious texts – the Vedas.

For centuries it was preserved only in oral tradition and was probably first written down only in the early Middle Ages.

The Rig Veda consists of 1028 hymns. This large collection of hymns is mainly devoted to the praise of the gods. It consists of 10 books called mandalas.
