Apaurusheya

Apaurusheya

अपौरुषेय, apauruṣeya

"coming not from a man"

Apaurusheya is a term denoting the original and unconditional sacredness of the nature of Vedic texts, as having no specific authorship. In the philosophy of Vedanta and Mimamsa, it is generally accepted that the words of Vedas consist of sacred phonemes of Sanskrit language, which were "heard" by holy sages, rishis, through spiritual vision.
