Bhadrasana

भद्रासन, bhadrāsana

Bhadrasana (from bhadra — "happiness, auspiciousness, blessed one") is an auspicious pose or pose that bestows happiness. In "Hatha Yoga pradipika" bhadrasana is mentioned as one of the four most important asanas (along with siddhasana, padmasana, and simhasana):

भद्रासनं भवेदेतत्सर्व-व्याधि-विनाशनम् ।
गोरक्षासनमित्याहुरिदं वै सिद्ध-योगिनः ॥ ५६॥

bhadrāsanaṃ bhavedetatsarva-vyādhi-vināśanam ।
gorakṣāsanamityāhuridaṃ vai siddha-yoginaḥ ॥ 56॥

1.56. This is bhadrasana, which destroys all diseases. Siddha yogins call this [asana] gorakshasana.

When performing bhadrasana, the pelvis should be lowered onto heels. Hands are behind the back, crossed at wrists, fingers of the left hand grasp or touch the thumb of the right foot, and vice versa, fingers of the right hand touch the thumb of the left foot. Shoulders squared, eyes closed. It is necessary to observe breathing and general condition, calmly staying in the asana; one can focus on the center of the chest, on the feeling of opening in this area.
