Dhatu

धातु, dhātu

The building material our body is made of; the forming structures of the body, providing the means of nutrition and growth, supporting the body and mind:

  • रस, rasa (lymph)

  • रक्त, rakta (blood)

  • मांस, māṃsa (muscle)

  • मेद, meda (fat)

  • अस्थि, asthi (bone)

  • मज्जा, majjā (bone marrow)

  • शुक्र, śukra (reproductive tissues of the body, spermatozoa and eggs).


The food that is taken from the outside world is first transformed into rasa (liquid substance), and rasa is gradually transformed into dhatu. All organs are formed from them in accordance with the nature of the biological species to which people belong.
