Dhvaja
Dhvaja
ध्वज, dhvaja"flag", "pennant", one of the details of a Hindu temple.
Dhvaja is usually installed on a peak of a temple dome or on a separate pole (dhvajastambha) next to a temple. The flag flying over a temple or during religious processions and ceremonies (usually orange or red) symbolizes the triumph and victory of dharma.
In agamic temples, a dhvajastambha with a flag is usually located behind vahana of Deity to whom the temple is dedicated. In a metaphysical sense, it creates an additional pole for the temple murti, allowing it to maintain a special force field in the temple space.
