Lelihana

Lelihana

Lelihana (from the Sanskrit root lih – "eat, comprehend") – one of the names of Parvati, wife of Shiva. Also, this name is one of the mudras used in tantric rituals.

In "Vijnana Bhairava Tantra", lelihana-mudra is explained as follows:

“This is the mudra in which the yogi comprehends the whole universe in his nature of the inherent I-consciousness. This is Shakta-siddha’s mudra.”

According to the descriptions given in the Tantric texts, there are two kinds of Lelihana-mudras.

The common variant, which occurs in most pujas and nyasas: the thumb is located at the base of the ring finger:
