Anupaya

Anupaya

अनुपाय, anupāya

where an is "negation" and upāya is "method, means, technique, trick"

The highest trick, a method without a method, when sadhaka knows that he is Shiva, and this does not need confirmation through methods. The term is found in Kashmiri Shaivism, where this upaya is preceded by three more: anava, shakta, and shambhava, each corresponding to certain methods.

The name anupaya indicates that the state of immersion in the Divine is achieved intuitively, effortlessly. It is considered the most desirable form of achieving the state of self-realization.
