The fourth Veda, main content of which are magical mantras and spells. Atharva Veda consists of 20 books containing (in different editions) 6-6.5 thousand verses. Books 1-13 are considered the most ancient, the text of the rest is mainly borrowed from the Rigveda.

According to the legend, Atharvaveda was compiled by rishi Atharvan, hence its name. Also known as "Veda of prayer" or "Veda of spells".
