Dhriti

Dhriti

धृति, dhṛti

"firmness", "constancy", "steadfastness", "stability"

Dhriti is the patience and firmness in all circumstances.

In "Introduction to Natha Yoga" by Mahant Avedyanath it is said that dhriti implies that a spiritual practitioner must develop the strength to endure unfavorable living conditions, difficulties encountered and harassment on the way of his advancement. He should never lose heart, worry or allow himself to be confused in any situation, but steadily move along the chosen path.

Guru Yogi Matsyendranath provides his comments:

"Steadfastness in sadhana is extremely important, one should always strive to fulfill what the Guru has given you. One who follows the path of yoga will always be subjected to many trials by various forces. The student should know that his apprenticeship consists in his constant overcoming of all kinds of obstacles. Of course, the Guru will help, but the disciples must also develop themselves. The greater the trials they endure, the greater the siddhis they will gain."
