Devi-bhagavatam
Devi-bhagavatam
देवी भागवतपुराण, devī bhāgavatapurāṇa
One of the main Shakti Puranas, contains 18,000 shlokas. Also known as “Srimad Devi Bhagavatam” or simply “Devi Bhagavatam”. In most lists it appears as Upapurana, but in some as Mahapurana. The text reveres Mahadevī as a non-dual Shakti, the basis of the universe. The creation is attributed to the period of the 9th-14th century A.D. Authorship is traditionally attributed to Vyasa.
The purana describes various incarnations of Devī: Bhuvaneśvarī, Durgā, Pārvatī, Kālī, Lakṣmī and others. It consists of 12 skandas (books) and 318 chapters.
It contains the “Devi-gita” (“Song of the Goddess”, chapters 31-40) – a philosophical treatise, one of the most important texts of Shaktism, along with “Devi-mahatmyam” and “Lalita-sahasranama”.
